Street children in Madagascar stand amid a garbage dump on the outskirts of Antananarivo, the capital. Over half the population is under 14, most live on less than $1 a day. Pollution of rivers and other sources make drinking water unsafe for many.

SHARE LENT 2006, the annual campaign of the Canadian Catholic Organization for DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE, helps partner communities in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It is the third and final year of the Thirsting for Justice campaign linked to our education theme, Water: Life Before Profit! about access to clean water. Our partners thirst for clean water and also for healthcare, cooperative ways to feed their families and the right to organize and end the unjust conditions in which they live.

A CALL TO SHARE SOLIDARITY MEAL
Our Church has always deemed Lent to be a time of sharing with those who are poor and with those denied the dignity and joy of an abundant life. But what is it really, asks National Council President Margie Noonan, we are being asked to share?
A Call to Share

The Solidarity Meal is a way to reflect on our links to people in the global South, an expression of our solidarity.

SHARE LENT 2006 PRESENTATION LOVE DOVE
We suggest the best time to present this reflection in your parish is March 25-26, the 4th Sunday in Lent weekend, a week before the Solidarity Sunday, April 1-2.

Message of His Holiness Benedict XVI for Lent 2006
MESSAGE FROM ARCHBISHOP WEISGERBER
"...the Church celebrated the 40th anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council. Among the final texts issued by the Council was its Pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World, which remains an urgent summons for Catholics to be more involved in transforming and serving society. As we continue being inspired and nourished by Vatican II and its teachings, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Canadian Catholic Organization for DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE invite all Canadian Catholics to uset he many resources at hand to shape a better society, which protects the dignity and rights of our sisters and brothers, here and around the world." - Rev. V. James Weisgerber
