Urban Poor Associates (UPA), a Philippines non-governmental organization, has educated more 285,000 families about their housing rights since its founding in 1992.
It has helped 510 communities whose residents faced the unpleasant prospect of forced eviction, often due to demolitions. The UPA has helped nearly 51,000 people find new lodgings nearby or else to stay in their own homes.
