Fall Action 08: more postcards to Ottawa!

Monday, September 29th, 2008

No, they’re not this year’s postcards (yet)! Over the summer enough postcards came in from last year’s Fall Action to send another impressive box of cards to Ottawa. Our total for last year’s campaign is now nudging 206,000! In this picture you can see an employee from Canada Post picking up your cards at our Toronto office. Keep up the good work, and let’s try to beat that number in this year’s postcard campaign!

Questions for local candidates

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

Local debates and door to door campaigning by candidates for the coming October 14 Federal election are great opportunities to raise their awareness of international development and solidarity issues. Simply by asking questions you’ll be letting your candidates know that Canadians are keenly interested in how Canadian government policies affect people in the Global South.

Use our helpful guides below to prepare your questions on corporate social accountability and the food crisis, two major issues Development and Peace and its members have been working on in our Education and Action campaigns.

Fall Action Leader Training in Toronto

Leaders Reviewing Fall Action Formation
Leaders Reviewing Fall Action Formation

On Saturday September 13th, seven Toronto-area member-leaders had a great day getting ready to take the campaign to the people of their Archdiocese!

Last year Toronto went from hosting one fall campaign workshop to hosting four, adding Mississauga, Whitby and Barrie workshops.  Member-leaders are now trained to lead Fall Action workshops in their own region. In 2007 this led to a 100% increase in the number of workshop participants!
Members wanting to lead workshops in their areas have access to all the workshop materials, in English and French, on-line at our Formation sites. Don’t hesitate to ask your animator for the Formation site address and password.

Great campaign idea #1

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Judy Corkery, the Chair of the Regina, Saskatchewan Diocesan Council, suggested at a recent organizing meeting that members and staff keep a supply of this year’s Fall Action cards and brochures at home. That way, when candidates for the upcoming Federal election come calling, we can brief them on our Fall Action campaign, ask for their support, and invite them to sign the card to the Prime Minister.

A great idea from Saskatchewan!
