Development and Peace is proud to announce the release of its first app, the Lent Calendar App for smartphones and tablets. This app is a resource for Share Lent campaign. This year’s campaign, entitled Sow Much Love… to Give, calls us to stand in solidarity with small-scale family farmers in the Global South who struggle to feed their families and communities.
Guiding you each day through the Lenten season, the app invites you to take three simple steps every day:
– Learn about Development and Peace partners who are working to build a world without hunger;
– Pray for our sisters and brothers who are sowing seeds of justice and change; and
– Act in solidarity to make your own contribution to their struggle.
A new way to use modern technology to enable Catholics to deepen their faith, this new tool provides smartphone and tablet users an opportunity to connect with our sisters and brothers in the Global South who struggle to live a life in dignity, notably through their work on the land.
Development and Peace staff and members are excited to download the app and start using this tool. Ryan Worms, Deputy Director of the In-Canada Programs Department, who has already downloaded the app on his smartphone, can hardly wait to start using it this Sunday, February 15th.
“The app is such a great way to observe every day of Lent, and inspire us to act in solidarity! Through this app, we can also add a prayer and a concrete action to transform unjust structures of poverty and hunger in the world,” said Mr. Worms.
Development and Peace Youth Programs Officer Brenda Chaput-Saltel feels that this app will inspire Canadian youth to learn more about the organization and make them realize that Development and Peace has a lot to offer.
“What makes this particular app unique is that it is not just a one-time tool, but it provides smartphone and tablet users a means to take action and stay engaged all throughout Lent from Ash Wednesday right up until Easter.”
We invite you to download the Lent Calendar App from the App Store or Google Play for free. For those who do not have smartphones or tablets, the Lent Calendar is also available on the Development and Peace website.
