Laudato Si’: heeding the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor five years on

Five years ago, Pope Francis released his encyclical Laudato Si’, which is a call to all people of good faith to undergo an ecological conversion and care for our common home. To celebrate and renew this call to action, we organized a webinar in collaboration with the Canadian Religious Conference and the Global Catholic Climate Movement – Canada to reflect on the significance of Laudato Si’, particularly during this period where our human family is experiencing a global pandemic. The webinar featured the following panelists, who offered rich reflections on how we can respond to the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor:

  • Stephen Bede Scharper, Associate Professor of Environment at the University Toronto and Toronto Star columnist
  • Sr. Sue Wilson, CSJ, Office for Systemic Justice, Federation of Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada
  • Rebecca Rathbone, Development and Peace – Caritas Canada Animator for Southwest Ontario and Caritas Youth Leader
  • Agnes Richard, Coordinator, GCCM – Canada
