“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. The words of Our Lord call to us today, telling us not to turn away, indifferent, when we know our neighbour is hungry. I encourage the faithful to participate in Caritas’ Food for All campaign and raise a voice for the hungry, particularly during the Week of Action in October. Thank you very much.”
In Canada, Development and Peace is responding to the Holy Father’s call by organizing a week of action as part of the Caritas Internationalis global campaign to end world hunger. Focusing on the role of women and men family farmers in fighting hunger, the Sow Much Love campaign calls on Canadians to ensure that the rights of farmers to save and use seeds is respected.
During the Week of Action, which coincides with World Food Day on October 16, Development and Peace members across Canada will be promoting the importance of choosing local, sustainably-grown food, and will invite people in their communities to take action to support the rights of small family farmers. Activities will take place throughout the week, beginning with a photo contest showcasing local and organic Thanksgiving meals, a “Sign the Petition” day on World Food Day, and local events in parishes and communities across Canada.
