“Money must serve, not rule! The Pope loves everyone, rich and poor alike, but he is obliged in the name of Christ to remind all that the rich must help, respect and promote the poor. I exhort you to generous solidarity and to the return of economics and finance to an ethical approach which favours human beings.”
–Pope Francis, The Joy of the Gospel, 58.
On Solidarity Sunday, which this year is on March 22, a special collection will be taken up in parishes across Canada in support of the work of Development and Peace. Your generous solidarity is vital to the mission of Development and Peace and our ability to help and defend the poor.
During our Share Lent campaign, Development and Peace invites Canadians to stand in solidarity with communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East who are struggling for dignity and justice. This year’s campaign Sow Much Love… To Give emphasizes the important role of small family farmers, men and women alike, in feeding communities in the Global South and eradicating hunger.
Making a donation the Share Lent campaign is a way to walk in the footsteps of Jesus, and sow seeds of justice with families and communities who suffer as a result of conflicts, natural disasters, and unfair economic and political structures.
Thank you for your active participation in Share Lent, and thank you for your generous gift!
