Time to Fast!

Together, we are fasting for world peace, for human dignity, for justice and for food for all, and by raising funds for Development and Peace, you are contributing in a concrete way towards solutions that allow all to benefit from God’s gifts to mankind.

A new stamp sale that’s not to be missed!

Stamp collecting, also known as philately, is a hobby that can also express international solidarity. So once again this year, Development and Peace is organizing a used-stamp fundraising sale to finance projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

Get into the spirit of Share Lent!

Ash Wednesday marked the beginning of our Share Lent campaign, and many activities have already taken place just in this first week! We held the national launch of the campaign in the Diocese of Hamilton with special guests Most Rev. Douglas Crosby and Fr. Hagos Hayish, the Secretary General of Caritas Ethiopia. Both did touching presentations on the impact of Development and Peace’s work to be in solidarity with the most poor and vulnerable in the Global South and how this is changing lives.

A Voice for Justice: Students go mining and dig out some valuable lessons

Who knew that a cookie could teach so much! This year, as part of our campaign A Voice for Justice calling for an ombudsman for responsible mining, we gave students the opportunity to understand the realities faced by communities in the Global South when a mining company doesn’t respect their rights. How? By mining cookies!

A Voice for Justice: citizen mobilization is well underway!

Members of Development and Peace have been and remain very active all across the country promoting the A Voice for Justice campaign. Meetings have taken place with a total of 36 Members of Parliament from all political parties, and most of them have received petitions signed by citizens from their respective ridings.

Youth are the future

Several members of Development and Peace along with two Regional Animators are currently on a solidarity tour of Madagascar to visit with local organizations supported by Development and Peace. Over the next few weeks, they will be writing about their visits and experiences.

We had the opportunity to go to the Antananarivo (Tana) Cathedral for an audience with Archbishop Odon of Tana. During our visit, he commented that family is a critical element for any positive, successful development in Madagascar.
