With the federal election now behind us, this is the time to show our newly elected government that we are expecting bold action on climate change at the December UN climate summit in Paris. This summit will be the new Canadian government’s first opportunity to show the world that our country is ready to change course and take bold action for a more sustainable and equitable world.
Development and Peace believes that by working together, we can tackle the injustice of climate change. We join the Holy Father and Church leaders from all five continents “in pleading for a major break-through in Paris, for a comprehensive and transformational agreement supported by all based on principles of solidarity, justice and participation.”
A consensus is growing around the world that the transition to a 100% clean energy economy by 2050 is not only necessary to solve the climate crisis, it’s 100% possible. It’s a vision for a healthy, diverse economy based on energy efficiency and renewable energy. It will lead to a safer, more sustainable, and a more just future for everyone.
That’s why Development and Peace has joined a massive coalition to organize a march in our nation’s capital and in cities across Canada on November 29th, the eve of the global climate summit in Paris. We will send a clear message to our new government that we are ready to take action as individuals, as communities, and as a country, for the survival of people in the Global South, and for the survival of the planet.
Pope Francis is urging us to mobilize to protect our common home, Mother Earth, so let’s make sure that Catholics are on the forefront of this global action for climate justice.
Please join us on November 29th in Ottawa for the march 100% Possible: Marching Together for Climate Solutions and Justice or join a march being organized in your community. Let’s show our new government that solutions to the climate crisis are not only real, they’re already on their way.
Development and Peace is working closely with the Global Catholic Climate Coalition (GCCM), Avaaz.org, and other allies around the world to make November 29th a massive global day of action, across Canada and around the world. Find events happening near you on the Avaaz “Global Climate March” website. Be sure to carry a Development and Peace banner and use the Create a Climate of Change poster.
JOIN THIS MASSIVE MOBILIZATION ON NOVEMBER 29th to create a climate of change!
